This twig mobile craft for kids is very easy to make. I suggest going for a walk at the start for the kids to pick their own twigs [exercise, check! fresh air, check!].
This was fun for the kids. And I got their exercise for the day sorted too!
You Will Need:
Contents
- twigs
- tempera paint
- paint brush
- curtain hooks
- string/twine

This is the best place to start.
Go for a nice lovely walk and pick some twigs. They may not look very pleased on this picture, 🙂 but this was a pretty good walk for everybody.
Preferably pick as many twigs as you can carry as some twigs the kids pick will not be usable. Also, there are many other things that you can make with painted twigs that you’re bound to put all the twigs into good use.

When you get home, pick which twigs you want to use and how many.
Pick one twig that is bigger than the others. This is where you hang the other twigs on.
You’ll want to work with a smooth twig. So sand the twigs first. [It’s shown on the video below but we don’t have a picture of it]
Once all the twigs are sanded, paint them any colour you want. We used tempera paint for this.

You’ll need to dry the twigs next.
You can dry them however you want. But this is what we did. We simply used an old detergent box. We poked holes into the box and propped the sticks into the holes.

Once the twigs are dry, put curtain hooks at one end of each stick.
Kids will need a little bit of help with this. You could make a hole first using a nail. Then get your child to screw the hook in.

Optional: Choose how you want to arrange the twigs in the mobile. Will you arrange it by colour? by size? by length?

Cut the twine to 7 different pieces. We cut them to the same length but that’s not absolutely important.
Tie one end of the twine to the hook.
Then tie the other end of the twine to the big stick.
Do this to all the sticks.
And…….
